Becoming A Christian

Realize God is seeking you. God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Eternal life is more than living forever. Eternal life is the quality of life that comes from knowing God. Jesus said, "This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God." (John 17:3)

Only one thing keeps us from knowing God. Our attitude of independence from God keeps us from knowing him. Mostly, we want things our way; this attitude is what the Bible calls ‘sin’. The Bible says, "All have sinned and come short of God’s glory." (Romans 3:23) Sin keeps us from knowing God. That’s the meaning of the word ‘death’ when the Bible says "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23)

God has made a way for us to know him. God sent his son, Jesus, to earth to restore our relationship with himself. Jesus died and rose again, paying the price for our sin. God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

You can know God through Jesus Christ. To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, [Jesus] gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12) We are reconciled with God by asking Jesus to be our Savior (receive Him) and trusting Him to restore us to God (believe in Him). God asks you to give up your independence from Him, allowing Jesus to direct your future.

Dear God,

I want to know You personally. I realize I am separated from you by my sin. Thank you for providing Jesus as my Savior. Please forgive my sin. Jesus, I choose you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for giving me eternal life.
